Directorate of University Health Services (DUHS), marked World Hearing Day 2026
The University Hospital, under the Directorate of University Health Services (DUHS), marked World Hearing Day 2026 with activities led by its Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Unit to raise awareness about hearing health. What happened at UCC Hospital The hospital’s ENT department organized awareness activities, including health education at the University Basic School (South Campus) and a public lecture as part of the global celebration. The events focused on educating the public on ear care, hearing loss prevention, and early detection. It formed part of broader efforts in Ghana’s health sector to promote hearing health, especially among children. This is celebrated annually on March 3, World Hearing Day is led by the World Health Organization. The 2026 theme was: “From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children.” This year’s campaign focused on preventing avoidable hearing loss, early screening and treatment, especially for children, and why it matters in Ghana. Across Ghana, many children with hearing conditions remain undiagnosed, with significant implications for their learning and overall development. Awareness campaigns, including those led by UCC Hospital, seek to promote early hearing screening, improve access to ear care services, and ultimately enhance educational outcomes for affected children.
